Here are our next set of Bird Walks. They will be held consistently on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month, so please call to get signed up if you want to join us!

Each month we'll let you know dates and destinations by email and on Facebook. The very best way to know what events are occurring is to sign up to get our announcements... We won't overwhelm you as we only send 2-3 emails a month to announce new events as they are known.

To preregister for Bird Walks (required) CALL the store at 541-844-1788. The maximum number of bird walk participants is 15. CALL and give your email address and phone number to our staff so they can get the data to our leaders who will email you directions for the meeting place.

The leaders will contact you about the specific walk meeting locations.
Hope to see you out there!

Seminar: Marvelous Birds...
Builders, Engineers
Problem-solvers & More

with Dan Gleason

Sun., July 23 – 4:30pm & Mon. July 24, 5:30pm

How hard do woodpeckers hit trees when seeking insects under the bark?
What strategies do they use to survive in sometimes difficult situations.

Join us in July as Dan Gleason examines the interesting strategies of birds, from hummingbirds to pelicans or woodpeckers.

We may know woodpeckers hit trees hard enough to dig holes, but how can they do that and not incur injury? How is it that birds can weave fibers into a tight, weather-resistant nest? Dan gave a talk specifically to an engineering class, in light of reminding students to look to nature for ideas in problem-solving, but come hear how birds have solved all kinds of challenges to life and limb!

Dan Gleason, co-owner of Wild Birds Unlimited, is a biologist who spent 30 years on the faculty of the department of biology at the University of Oregon.  While there, he taught the field ornithology course, a senior and graduate-level course about birds and bird biology. He has assisted many non-profit organizations, sch as the McKenzie River Trust, Cascades Raptor Center, and Lane County Audubon Society, leading field trips and assisting with education. He has held various board positions with Lane County Audubon Society, Oregon Field Ornithologists (now Oregon Birding Association), and the Eugene Natural History Society. Dan has been a frequently-invited speaker at bird festivals and nature-oriented organizations across the Pacific Northwest.

and those fmaily memers are now also using the 4 suet feeders we maintain.
